USB hard drive - SMB1 protocol issue

Hey all,

When trying to access a hard drive attached to the USB port of a GT-AC5300 via unc (\\GT-AC5300), I get the following:

"You can't connect to the file share because it's not secure. This share requires the obsolete SMB1 protocol, which is unsafe and could expose your system to attack. Your system requires SMB2 or higher. For more info on resolving this issue, see: https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=852747"

That link says SMB1 was disabled in W10 by design.

Need help with router RT-N66U for repeater mode no internet access

Hello guys,

I have a wirless hotspot connection at work and I would like to plug a router to have my own sub net to share a printer and hdd with my colleagues.

I try the router N66U in repeater mode, I choose the hotspot as the connection, then the router change his IP to 192.168.50.1

I can connect my wireless adapter to extender wifi but I have no internet access .. ? if I try to login to admin panel 192.168.50.1 it doesn't work. I use the discovery tool (that's how I discover the new...

guest network ac51u

I have got sky fibre broadband and i want to add a guest network to this as when we have partys certain people who are logged into my wifi start sending music to my airplay / dlna devices as they think its funny, lol

I have purchased a asus RT-AC51U router and using the wan port connected it to my sky hub (not sky q)

I am trying to set it up as an access point and it all works fine, but if i enable guest and use another phone and login to the guest network i can still see all my network...

Enabling remote users to access VPN CLient resources

I have set up VPN server and VPN Client for my Asus RT-AC66U_B1 router.

I have Network B connected to our network over VPN CLient on Router.

Everyone directly connected to the router can access the resources of Network B. But everyone that is connected to our network over VPN can't see resources of Network B. Any help much appreciated in this regard.

Hey all,

I recently added a GT-AC5300 to my house which has an RT-AC5300 and AC66U B1. They're all acting in an AiMesh setup, connected via ethernet, using SmartConnect (I know this in itself may be problematic too).

More often than not, everything works great. Yet, every now and then, shit goes crazy. Sometimes devices won't connect (more specifically, an original Amazon Echo and a WeMo outlet), entire system goes down (can't connect to the source router), devices connect to the wrong...

My 68U is old 800/666 EU model with 1.70 hw.

I just hacked 2 tm-ac1900's to Asus RT-AC68U. 1 was easy, 1 was more of a problem (3199 f/w).
Both appear to be running OK now.
I have another that has a more serious issue.
I turn it on, LEDs flash, power led comes on and stays on, rear white leds come on and can't be turned off with the switch.
Doing a recovery reset does nothing.
Holding the WPS sw while powering on causes the power led to blink rapidly after a few seconds till the sw is released.
There is no communication with the...

Hi,

I am thinking about upgrading the DD-WRT firmware in my router and wasn’t sure which file to use for my Asus RT-AC5300 router. I have read quite a bit of info in dd-wrt wiki but it is still not very clear to me on which file to use to upgrade, .trx vs .bin one. I used a .trx file to go from stock to DD-WRT but I’m somewhat stuck on whether to use a new .trx file to upgrade or not. I currently have one of Kong’s firmwares installed. Please advise. Thank you!

I have been tinkering with a converted AC1900 (I will call it a 68U) working on the many CFEs and firmware loads on these forums. I even successfully did edits on the CFE to change the clock frequencies on one of my converted 68Us. One of my 68Us runs 1.0.2.5 with 1000,800 successfully. However the last time I did this I must have changed the cfe enough that now the 68U does not respond to the nvram clear via WPS button or the old factory reset (30 30 30). It does not go into recovery where...

Hey guys!

First, I want to say that english is not my mother tongue, so I want to say sorry for my poor grammar.

I just purchased RT-AC66U_B1 router and updated firmware to 3.0.04.384_20624 (latest version).

I have a problem that router freezes unpredictably for ~15-20 minutes. WiFi LEDs go off, LEDs for wired connections blinks as crazy.
After rebooting the router WiFi LEDs come back but no internet, no DHCP address on any device... after 10-15 additional minutes everything comes back....

Hello folks,

I have an AC68P currently running the latest Merlin fw (384.4_2). I am trying to use a Sandisk Ultra Fit 64GB USB 3.0 flash drive as a network drive formatted as NTFS. I'm having the following 2 issues:
1. More often than not, when I plug in the drive into the USB 3.0 port, the router doesn't recognize the drive is plugged in. The LED on the front doesn't light up. The USB 2.0 port works fine with this drive, albeit slow speeds.

Good afternoon or good morning (depending where you are living :))

I am (until now) a happy new owner of ASUS GT-AC5300 and as you may understood ... I am living in China.
I have Astrill VPN and I am wondering how I can setup my router with it.
I know that unfortunately DD-WRT and Merlin are not compatible with this router (I should have check before, but I have been pushed by my chidren to by this router for ... gaming) and will be probably not.

I currently have an RT-AC3100 with another router (Netgear) setup as an extender that is starting to have issues. As I started looking at a new router for a replacement I noticed this AiMesh capability and thought now would be the perfect time to make it happen. I tried reading old threads and researching it but couldn't really find anything definitive so I thought that I would start a new thread.

RT-AC3100 VPN Samba

Hallo,

long time reader here with first post :) I have RT-AC3100 router with latest original Asus FW, everything works perfectly - I'm using built-in IPSec VPN (btw, strongswan ike1 with shared secret), but Asus Samba server blocks access from VPN subnet (10.0.0.x) as seen in logs, in smb.conf is only loopback (127.0.0.1) and local network (192.168.1.x) allowed, Samba works perfectly from local network (wired or wifi).

I can edit smb.conf, but after samba service restart is overwritten...

Can't access device on LAN by hostname

Hi,> I get a DNS error when I try to access a device on my local network with RT-AC66U router with the hostname. I can get them with the IP and I also can't ping the hostname. Any ideas what is wrong?

Hi all,

I've grabbed myself the AC86U.

Im currently using Merlins latest stable firmware and i've got smart connect turned on.

There's one room in my house where there seems to be a switch between 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz, I feel like 5Ghz would be stable here. It must be right on the border for swapping between the two frequencies

What settings do i need to change to make it stick on 5Ghz longer?

Brand new AC88u 2.4Ghz not working

I recently bought an AC88u router as an upgrade. It worked great out of the box (though I must say that the boot times are atrocious). On the second day, I saw that the 2.4 Ghz band LED was off and on scanning wifi networks on multiple devices, the 2.4Ghz band was no where to be seen. In addition, trying to access the WebGUI would lead to a broken webpage, even after reboot.

I reset the router, and though the WebGUI was back, the 2.4Ghz band was still not working. I have tried upgrading the...
