Asus RT-AC86U - Abysmal wireless settings @default

Hello,

First time poster. Did some research here and on google and wasn't sure where to start with making some changes to improve my poor wireless speeds.

asus rt-ac86u
f/w: 3.0.0.4.384_45717

I have the Asus connected to a port on my Verizon Fios Quantum Router (1 gig up/down). When physically connected to router I see same gig speeds that I do when directly connected to verizon router, but the wireless speeds are terrible.

I attached (5) pics a Lenovo X220 laptop connected wirelessly...

Asus RT-AC66U issues

I am having issues connecting to my ssh server back home and I think its the Asus router which is causing this. Most of the time everything works normally. but there are times when the ssh connection fails, this started happening recently. I was able to connect remotely till yesterday evening but today I can't.

How can I troubleshoot and confirm that its the router which is causing the issue?

[Speedport modem]----->[AC66U]---->[HP Switch]---->[SSH PC]

Using both AC68P & AC86U ... which best for Router?

I 've been using two AC68P in my house to get coverage. I just acquired a AC86U to replace one as I hear it has better speeds and also Smart Connect. Should I replace the AP (top floor, 3 level home) or the Router (bottom floor, basement) to get the best use of the 86U?
I've only ran the native QOS, DHCP reservations ,etc ... no fancy 3rd party apps or parental stuff on the router but if the 86U can handle it maybe would consider some. Suggestions are appreciated!

RT-AC5300 2.4GHz randomly switches to channel 0

For a few months now I have had this random issue of my 2.4GHz SSID just disappearing. I was never able to really capture it myself since it either happened late when I was in bed or when I wasn't home.
UNTIL NOW!

I just so happen to be on my computer when it happened and I was able to capture the following ODD behavior.

I am currently running Merlin 380.64, but I have had this same exact issue on previous versions.

Hello i dont know if this was posted already but i a few day's ago i bought an asus rt-ac57u and in the panel i have download master after i connected the external hard drive of 1tb usb 3.0 and check'ed with the installer it isnt working at all it just says after making swap partition the remote server is not responding change'd the dns server but noting at all except sometime's it start's and goes up to 60-70 percent and back to the same point with the remote server is not responding i even...

Hey.

I got a Asus Router specifically to use with a 4G dongle while working on a ship which means a lot of roaming.
However I can not seem to find any way to activate roaming.

I have yet to use this 4G dongle in a roaming condition so maybe its pops up when it is in roaming but that does seem strange. Does anyone know where the roaming settings is for this router with this dongle or how it works?

Its a Huawei E3372 4G dongle with the Asus ROG AC-5300 router....

Hello,

Hello everyone, first post here, just found this forum witch seem to be a great source of informations.

I own a Asus RT-ac68u, I really like the App on my phone to control the WIFI for kids, I often look at the list of device on my network.

Yesterday I realise that they were lots of new device there that I did not knew. The other strange thing, their MAC address all start with the same 6 caracters but different names of device. 00:08:22, my research showed that this InPro Comm....

Hello,

I am reaching out to you guys, hoping to get some feedback on what could be wrong with my Asus AC86U.

I have used the router for months without problems in SmartConnect mode and have assigned my client devices to either the 2.4GHz or 5GHz band by using the wireless MAC filter functionality. Everything has worked very well until Thursday. I left my apartment early in the morning, got back home in the evening and nothing worked anymore.

Of course I did the normal troubleshooting...

Lost remote access and GUI on DSL-AC86U...but I can telnet

I usually login remotely to the GUI of my DSL-AC86U using ASUS DDNS service, but for some reason the DDNS or/and the GUI has failed.

Since I am away from the property where the router is at my options are limited.

I have been able to login to the terminal of another device at the property and have successfully logged into the DSL-AC86U via telnet, so the router is still working to some restricted degree.

Is there a way I can restart the DDNS, troubleshoot the router from telnet commands?...

DSL-AC68U ntp sync fail

I noticed the system log time and date are way off (like May 2018), even after rebooting the router and I'm seeing repeated ntp sync fail messages in the log.

Here's my settings

I'm wondering if anyone else has an answer to this as my family wants me to replace the router and I've found little solutions .

I have an RT-AC3100 Router running the stock (and updated firmware). It has about 15 2.4 devices (mostly light bulbs), 10 5ghz devices connected and about 10 hard wired devices that are all on downstream switches. RT-AC68U default language after reset

I have an RT-AC68U that I think was meant for the Japanese market as the default language after resetting the router is Japanese.

I was previously able to fumble my way through the initial Japanese quick setup screens (using Google translate on my phone) to get to the admin panel where I can change the language to English quite easily from the top language menu (Japanese and English are the only options).

I was wondering, is there a way to permanently make the router default to English...

I recently set up an Aimesh - main router is a 4G-AC68U, the 3 nodes are RT-AC68U's - all connected by ethernet cable.

The mesh appears to be working for the most part. All boxes are visible from the main router and the app.

However, I set up a 'Guest Wifi' on the main box but its not showing in areas of the house that are out of range of the main router.

Also, if I change the password on the main router - it doesn't change on the nodes - as I can't use the new password in areas of the...

I just got RCN 1 Gigabit internet. I have an ARRIS SB8200 cable modem. When I connect my computer directly to the modem, I am seeing the speeds I expect. About 850-900Mbps (I am using Cat5e). When I connect my computer to the AC88U, I max out at about 410-450Mbps but mostly seeing 350-400. My wireless devices seem to max out at about 500Mbps on the 5Ghz network.

I am using the latest AI Mesh stock firmware (3.0.0.4.384_20379-gc0714df). I have an AC68U setup as an AI Mesh node....

Increase lookup space for computernames when connecting from openvpn?

I have a ASUS RT-AC86U. When I connect to it by OpenVPN I need to give Ip addresses to different devices on the net instead of their names. I guess that is since I am on a 10.8.0.X net and rest of the devices are on the 192.168. net
Is this possible to solve so I can use the names instead of their ip addresses?

Just a heads up for those of you having issues and considering doing an RMA on your ASUS AC86.

When I contacted ASUS yesterday to return my AC86 which was giving me fits they did not have any units to exchange for mine and the best they could offer was they would try and repair mine and if it could not be fixed they would discuss other options.

This leads me to wonder if there might be underlying problems with the AC86 hardware given the number of posts on this forum about strange...

Have a AC86U and the PS4 upstairs often lags or disconnects completely via wifi. My son is very upset as he keeps losing points on games, he's pretty good at some games and plays in tournaments. No other device in the entire house does this, even when playing games on tablets right next to this PS4, never have any problems at all only this PS4.
