Asus RT-AC5300 wierd problem with games

I have the router in title, im on a 330/45 mb connection here in the uk.

I have the latest merlin version firmware 384.13, i have flashed this more than once and done complete factory wipe no restore of any kind.

Now me and my 2 kids play fps games a lot, for instance apex legends. So we can go on and play do really well (top 3 most games) that evening.
Get up the next day and we go on again and cant seem to hit a barn door, check ping looks ok 18ms max, usually aroun 7ms / 8ms.

Repeater mode AC68U not working well

My main router is an AC87U and I'm trying to extend range to guest house using an AC68U. (Both are on latest stable Merlin firmware.)

When the 68 is in Media Bridge mode, I get a solid 100-120 mbps. But when it's in Repeater mode, I get around 80mbps – which is fine – but WiFi clients keep losing connectivity after an hour or two. Sometimes only restarting the 68 fixes it.

Is there any way to troubleshoot this? Should I try a different firmware, like Tomato or DD WRT?

5ghz is broken on my ASUS RT-AC86U

Hello guys,

I have a big problem with this router, the 5ghz band is broken and I can't fix it despite a nvram erase and factory reboot. The firmware doesn't change anything (currently the last Asus merlin and I tried the last Asus firmware)

As you can see "rc_service: watchdog 780:notify_rc start_cfgsync" is spammed
The wifi icon is not fully white and there is no 5ghz wifi channel anymore

I experienced the popular WiFi dropout problem for which ASUS warranty-swapped with their usual efficiency, but even the new unit seems to have VLAN issues where traffic to the WAN port just stops and requires a restart. I’m curious if other owners have also had problems with their replacement units as well or if I am just unlucky. I have a weird one.

Asus RT-AC66U_B1 router.
WD EX2 Ultra NAS

Internal network is running fine. Communication speeds consistent with a gigabit network.

Speedtest.net gives a 20MB Down/5MB up transfer speed for my home network.
Speedtest.net gives a 10MB Down/2MB up transfer speed for a remote network. (I have tried three different remote networks, each with different ISP's)


The problem. . . if I try to stream (say, using PLEX) from my NAS on my home network to a PC on the remote...

Hello,

First post here and not expert in these things. However, I know how to do a simple port forwarding for my BitTorrent client.

So, I have bought an ASUS DSL-AC87VG from ebay but port forwarding does not work.
I use the latest available firmware, and I have read all the related posts in this forum, but unfortunately had no luck.
I rolled back to previous firmwares, but no luck also!

(RtAC-68/86U) Ipad keeps dropping Wifi 5ghz

Greetings.

My latest Ipad has trouble staying connected to my 5 Ghz network.
Wifi keeps dropping every 30 sec/ 1min. Totally random, Actually.

Tested routers are the RT-AC68U/ RT-AC86U with Merlin firmware 384.13
I also tested the 68U with an older firmware (380.67) and it's even worse.

Other devices (other Ipad, Xbox, PC) have no problem staying connected.

Long time ASUS router user, have the RT-N66U, RT-AC68P, and now just got the RT-AC86U. The 86U whenever I install the latest ASUSWRT firmware ceases to function and I have to use the firmware restore utility to go back 1 version and I can revive it. Trying to reset the unit via the reset button does nothing, it doesn't respond. 30-30-30 reset doesn't do anything either. Just wondering if anyone would be so kind to help me here. I currently have an AC86u (gaming router) in an apartment where I have couple of wired clients (TV, HUE hub, Synology NAS, gaming computer) and loads of wireless clients (macbooks, iPhones, Apple TV, etc). I don't use any VPN, but have Asus' adaptive QOS enabled. Router is situated in the living room, running latest merlin build.

Hey all,

I've been using a 3 router AiMesh (AC66u B1, AC5300, GT5300) setup for awhile. They are all connected via Ethernet. I did a firmware (3.0.0.4.384_45149) update today, and now under network map, it says "5 GHz-2 is now used as dedicated WiFi backhaul under AiMesh mode."

I tried to change the name to the same as the 2.4ghz + 5ghz dual band, and it barks "The fronthaul SSID is the same as the backhaul SSID".

Is this ... working as intended? I don't understand why I'd need a wifi...

Hoping I will be able to get some answers to an ongoing issue with my router.

To begin I currently have a 300/20 service from my ISP and when measured from my PC which is hardwired to the router I get on average 325/22 consistently. I have used both the Ookla speed test and also the one from DSL reports to check speeds.

I am having a issue however with the Wifi speeds I am getting from the unit, primarily on the 2.4 band.

I am unable to share my wifi connection using mobile access point. (windows 10)

I have been upset that the rt-ac56u was not included in the routers that would support Aimesh since it is very similar to the rt-ac68u and decided to try and get it to work. I was able to install the rt-ac68u firmware to my rt-ac56u and it has been working in my Aimesh setup for a few hours now. The firmware was flashed using WinSCP and Putty like the Tmobile conversion and the cfe was modified to replace rt-ac56u with rt-ac68u in 2 places. Aimesh is the only thing I have tested and it...

Vpn advice

Hey everyone,
So I just got hit with a letter from my broadband provider about music downloading so I'm looking to use a vpn.

I have the asus AC5300 and wanted to run it on the router itself.
Can anyone recommend a good vpn? I have a 350M line and a lot of devices in the house with kids and all so I don't want to loose a lot of speed.

Any recommendations appreciated.

Hello,


I have an ASUS Ai-Mesh network consisting of a main router, RT-AC88U and an Ai-Mesh node which is an RT-AC86U wired directly to the 88U.

The house is 3 floors (Basement, Floor 1, Floor 2) and the main router, 88U, is located in the finished basement. The 86U is on Floor 2. Both items were bought in July of 2018.

Hi all,

I've been having issues with my NVRAM filling up the last couple of days, and have been looking over all my settings (currently using 384.13 Merlin on an ASUS RT-AC68U), and just noticed this filling up my log. I'm certainly no expert but it appears that someone(s) trying to brute force into my router admin using TOR nodes....

While it appears that it's all being blocked properly (again, I'm no expert so I may be wrong), it seems like it must(?) be causing a lot of unnecessary...

RT-AC5300 is unable to visit some websites after AiCloud activation

Hi all, as mentioned in the title above, the issue persists even after turning it off again. I had to do factory reset without AiCloud on to access websites like Wikipedia and bank website. The signature is the latest version 29/9/2019. Firmware is 384.13. Just checking if anyone has similar issue. Thanks for reading!
