Whats the best wireless advanced settings

Hello i was wondering what the optimal values would be for wireless 5ghz in the advanced tab. My major questions are, when the multicast rate is set to auto, will OFDM most likely be used/ are there any benefits to fine tuning the multicast rate. Enabling IGMP Snooping have any benefits (I have the GT-AC5300 so processing power isn't really an issue. DTIM interval and Beacon interval, are higher numbers better or lower numbers. Finally are there any other advanced settings that should...

Asus RT-AC87R

Hello all. This is a spare router I was playing with. It runs the current version of Merlin. Yesterday all was well and today no link lights come on and the Internet connection light stays red. I can connect to a PC and log into Merlin, however, the no link light is lit on the back of the router. I reset to factory defaults with no luck.

If I could still use the Internet it would not be a big deal but that does not work at all.

Any ideas welcome.

Hi all,

Do any of you have any thoughts/suggestions on what the best wireless settings should be for this router with latest DD-WRT (Kong’s) firmware installed in it? I have reviewed several older postings here and on the DD-WRTs for a majority of them pertain to other routers. I am specifically looking for suggestions for tweaking settings that may make the most difference in speed rates for this particular router.

Ok, I know that what I did is stupid, but I need your help please.

I got my 2nd AC1900, made it to AC68U. All was good, until I decided to overclock it to 1000/800 just like I did with my first one (3 months ago, successfully)

I remember last time I modified CFE in Hex editor, however, I could not find that guide, so long story short, I just opened Hex editor, changed 800/666 to 1000/800, went to Puty and flashed this modified CFE using mtd-write.

Now all I have is solid USB light and eth...

I've been running our home network for several years on an AC68U and I've really enjoyed it. I have several wireless devices, but my primary system, and the system I'm doing my investigating with, is wired directly to the router. My service from the ONT is Ethernet.

RP-AC68U stuck in a boot loop

I have a RP-AC68U, and it's stuck in, a recover mode or a loop of sorts, it won't respond to ping recovery tool doesn't work it flashes but the unit, keep blinking lights.
When it boots it preforms a rapid blink of both wifi LEDs the blinks slowly and at intervals will blink rapidly.
Wps button reset doesn't work, it seems not not respond to the reset button but I can preform a 30/30/30 reset flash the firmware with no luck.
Is there anyway to delete nv ram via serial or recover it at all,...

RT-AC66U random restarts multiple times per day (I have logs!)

My router seems to restart randomly multiple times per day, generally with a several hour intermission. Does anyone have any ideas? I'm on the latest firmware, did a factory reset, and everything should be fine. But it's not! Here's the part with today's date... there are more entries from another date which may just be the default date prior to the router obtaining the current one. Let me know if you need more of the logs. Please help!

Hey Guys,

Currently using stock firmware 3.0.0.4.382_18991, I would like to use my Private Internet Access account (Open VPN with ovpn file) for my SmartTV, Fire TV Stick and guest network only not for all clients connected to my Asus router, but I don't see an option under VPN profile to select which IP's can be routed through vpn and which can go directly, is this something available under Merlin Firmware?

Also is it possible to simultaneously use multiple VPN profiles for different...

I have replaced an earlier Asus router (AC66). It would not talk to me. I put in an AC-3100. I wanted better processing and improved WiFi to handle phones in the house. i have the ac3100 with the latest firmware. It is in ap mode as it's taking the Internet from my cable router downstairs. I have new cat 6 cables run. I just recently upgraded from the 50mb to the 130mb plan. My desktop downstairs is hard wired from the cable modem and is consistent at 130ish. I've had this router for a couple of years. I've had issues with certain devices connecting via the Tri Band Smart Connect, so I had a separate guest network on 2.4GHz for those few devices.

RT-AC86U and traffic analyzer

I’m at a loss. I have searched about as much as I can. I am running the latest stock firmware. I toggled “traffic analyzer” on, but it does nothing. Traffic Monitor works fine.

I searched and found that “NAT Accleration/HW Acceleration” was the problem, but I found neither of those in the stock firmware.

I do have the trend micro stuff enabled.

I know I'm probably going to sound like an idiot here, but i need help and am ready for any abuse. I had an FTP server set up on my 87u and it worked fine. I have a couple of ip cameras that would upload to it. I have since upgraded to the 86U and I got it set up and logged in, but the commands are all different. I used to use things like CD and LS, but now those dont exist. I did a HELP and got the list of commands. I found LIST which i assumed was the same as LS but it then says to...

No Aimesh icon on Rt-AC3100

I have a converted TM-1900, and I have been able to load firmware and get the AImesh icon fine. I just bought a RT-AC3100, loaded 3.0.0.4.384.20379. No Aimesh icon.

After my experience with Asus routers I'm finished my saga. I'm started with N66, after that 87U (best router if you use Merlin firmware) and 86U. For all this more than six years I can tell you that Asus routers can be compared with old whiskey - how old is the router than it will be more stable (firmware has less bugs).
I don't understand how you can build something and after that you can't build software to control it. Every update is some kind of pain - one thing is better but other...

Hello all

I've tried searching the forums as well on the internet trying to find some answers. I currently have gigabit internet with Rogers and using a Asus RT-AC88U connected with Cat6a cables.

Is there some settings that would be recommended to turn on our off by default when working with faster services. I've tried reading up trying different options and have channels selected that are not being used by other networks.

Safety of a second hand asus router

I recently purchased a second hand RT-AC3200 router for a bargain price off ebay (well under half of a new one). After purchasing I instantly started to consider how safe it is running a router when I don't know its history or that of the seller. I've connected it to a raspberry pi that is isolated, flashed the latest merlin and have reinitialised to make sure its all wiped. All seems to be running well. Should that be safe? Not sure if I'm being over paranoid?

I am experiencing a very odd issue. When using my company laptop, I have to connect to them using Cisco AnyConnect VPN. Connecting is no problem, but i cant access some of the resources. Some work, and others dont. I moved the laptop and plugged directly into my ATT gateway, bypassing my Asus AC86U router and everything works perfectly. I can access everything. I was experiencing the same issues on my AC87U before upgrading. Router confiig was created new when I installed the 86U....

Hello everyone, I am new to this forum. I tried searching for my solution online and found lots of videos on how to set my router QOS and such, but I don't think it has answered my questions entirely and this forum looked very knowledgeable. I have an ASUS 1900 that I am using at my events to broadcast Wifi for my guests. The down speed is 50 MBPS, and I have around 50-60 guests that connect to the router. Here is what I want to do, please let me know if it's feasible and how I can do this....
